I swapped my external DVD burner with a 2.5" hard drive using the same FireWire enclosure, Oxford 911 chipset.

My Mac doesn't boot from it. I can't even see the disk in the Open Firmware boot disk chooser screen.

I can boot from the same drive fine when it is inside the computer, and I can boot from the DVD drive fine when it is in the enclosure. Any idea why my configuration doesn't work? :eekers:

You are going to need santilli to answer that one. I think he is the only regular here that uses Macs much. Given that you can boot from the external DVD drive though, my guess is that it would have to be .... no, I changed my mind. I don't know enough about Macs to even guess sensibly.

What happens if you boot from your normal drive? Can you see the external drive and read/write to it normally?

Hold down your option key during startup to get a list of available boot devices.

Operator error. The wiring went loose inside the enclosure.
It is working now!
