Can you copy DVD's from one reader to another?

I was wondering if with Disccopy you could copy the entire disk from one to the other, without ripping?

Thanks

For data DVD's, probably. But most retail DVD video have encryption which requires the aid of a tool such as dvd decrypter. I don't know what happens when you copy encrypted files as-is.

I am omnipresent
You get a disc that doesn't play, because you can't copy the part of the disc that contains the cryptographic key for the rest of the disc.

Not every Video DVD is encrypted. A lot of documentaries aren't, and neither is porn.

The standard forms of copy protection are standard Macrovision and CSS. Lately some content owners have also been introducing Mastering Errors which can prevent a lot of ripping software from working properly, and also using the latest-n-greatest new Macrovision content protection scheme.

Mastering problems can be dealt with "on the fly" with a program called AnyDVD, or if you're willing to accept a movie-only product, you could also just use DVD Shrink to re-author your disc rather than doing a backup.

The new Macrovision protection is a little bit more annoying. The only program I've found able to deal with it is DVD Decrypter. I don't much care for using that, though, because it's back to the bad old days of ripping a whole 9GB movie to a PC and THEN using Shrink to make another 4.5GB worth of temp files. Bleh.

I should have been more specific. Right now I have disks that are about 4 gigs, and not encrypted. They show up as something like "logical identifier" when put in a DVD player, and then play.

They aren't encrypted, just home movies.

Thanks

DVD43Free too.

I only used it once - Shaun of the Dead has "bad sectors" anti-ripping protection which a prior version of DVDDecryptor choked on. With DVD43Free in place, the older version of DVDDecryptor was able to rip away. I believe the newest version of DVDDecryptor can now circumvent such studio protection strategies.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've installed the little guy, and so far so good.

The Madog NEC 16X dual layer arrived today, and it comes with Nero, for
89.00. Amazing, simply amazing.

Nero works great, and, at Fry's, is 99.00, alone. The burner works great, burning DVD single layers at 16X speed, and kicking out bad DVD's which
is just wonderful.

Awesome advice by all, thank you.
