Can't boot from CD

help me out guys, I just can't seem to think strait.

It's an old motherboard, an ASUS P55T2P4. I've ripped a CD drive from another computer, I have nothing on the HDD. The computer has recognised the HDD and the CDROM. I have selected a "CDROM,C,A" boot order. The computer just doesn't do anything once it gets to the stage that it is seeking the boot drive. Where an older computer would be saying "Starting windows 95...", it is just blinking. My guess is a dodgy CDROM drive. It's an LG 40x CDROM. Any guesses why it wouldn't want to boot from the CD?

That would be my guess too, but have you checked the Master/Slave jumpers and tried different cables?

Are you sure the rom drive can read the CD in the first place? Perhaps its just a media incapatibility issue, as opposed to anything physically wrong with the drive or system.

Do you have another boot disk to try, like an actual silver windows XP disk?

If you do boot floppies with cdrom drivers can you get a file directory of a disk in the CD rom?
