I know for a fact that my bladder holds a lot more than 8oz of liquid. I was driving back to Madison about a month ago and I got caught in some horrible traffic on I-90. I was stuck in the traffic for so long that I finally decided to pee in a bottle. The bottle held 20oz. I filled up the bottle 1.75 times. Which equals 35oz of liquid. That is probably one of the worst times I have ever had to go to the bathroom before, probably not very good on the bladder either.

I find that a bladder has a second wind. i.e you can be busting to go, you hold it in for a while, and then the urge reduces. You are then good to go for a while longer. Of course when you do finally go, you really go.

The sound you're all hearing is me beating my head against a salad fork.

If I can largely restain myself from posting about porn (see my user profile, and yes, I'm serious), you guys can behave a little bit better.

Jerry Seinfeld is quite possibly the least funny person to ever live. I've had runny pustulanimous boils that have given me more boils that've been more amusing.

Can you really say that sex acts that take place during the course of an adult movie are gratuitous? Really, I mean, sex in a porn movie has just got to be justified. If you can't have sex in a porno movie, where the hell CAN you have sex?

And exploitive? In the whole of the entertainment industry, only in porn is the majority of power in the hands of women. Nobody says "Oh look, Rocco made another one!", but if Tera Patrick's left foot appears on a box cover, it'll be the most popular movie of the season.

Yep, he ranks up there with the writers for Saturday Night Live over the past 10-15 years. Seinfeld the show was so bad I don't understand how it got on the air, let alone stayed on.

I'll third that. I also think that Friends is another pointless, awful show which never should have stuck around this long or been this popular. Actually, almost anything these days on the big three networks(and most of the stuff on the FOX, UPN, and WB) stinks. Even Enterprise is getting a bit stale.

Sadly, most of the american public watches shows that are the TV equivalent of that dump thread. They might be funny for a little while and then they quickly become tedious. Come to think of it, the dump thread is actually better than most of the crap on TV, at least from an entertainment standpoint. No more tasteless, either, than shows like Jerry Springer.

The fact that there was a popular sitcom involving Jerry Seinfeld is a large contributing factor to my decision not to pursue gettting decent TV reception.

I've never seen Friends.

Don't bother. You are essentially saving yourself a big waste of time. I don't know of any new sitcoms that are worth watching. Most of my TV viewing time has been spent watching classic movies, the Food Network, A&E, or the Hitler, I mean History Channel. Oh yeah, Monster Garage on the Discovery Channel can be fun to watch.

Geez, Merc. I wasn't really being serious with all of this. Can't we have a little fun around here without you banging your head and getting all serious on us?

As for Seinfeld, I guess this is the wrong crowd. While the overall quality of his material is admittedly not the greatest, there are some truly classic Seinfeld moments (The Soup Nazi probably being the most famous) that are so well known that they are cultural references that show up fairly often in everyday conversation... you guys are missing out.

As for Friends, yes, it is steaming crap... but it is good eye candy. :)

Speaking of the poor quality of TV, I can't believe you guys are bashing Seinfeld when all we have these days is reality show after reality show. Surely they deserve it more than Seinfeld.

There is some good stuff on TV these days, though. My favourites are:

- Alias (abc, Sun)
- 24 (FOX, Tue)
- West Wing (NBC, Wed)
- Law and Order (NBC, Wed)
- ER (NBC, Thu)

Sopranos (HBO) and CSI (CBS) unfortunately I never get a chance to watch. Sopranos because we don't get HBO in Canada; CSI because I don't have enough time... 5 shows a week is as much as I can handle with time shifting and other committments.

My new place will evidently have "all the channels" DirectTV. Or, at least, I'll be able to steal (= pay for a receiver and stuff, not steal as in "theft of service") it from the guy leasing the other side of the duplex I'm moving into.

To date, this is what I know I like on TV:
The Sopranos
Six Feet Under
The Shield
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (it'll never die in reruns!)
The Simpsons (ditto. Is it still on the air?).
Nova
The chicas-dancing-in-thongs-show on Telemundo(1)

... and that's the end of my list. Not a lot of network shows there.
Oddly, because I don't watch much TV, I find commercials tremendously entertaining. Usually moreso than the shows that are wrapped around them.

Anyone have DirectTV? What's it like? Is the receiver thing like a normal piece of AV equipment or is it coax-only ?

(1) I only get Spanish TV stations with the indoor antenna in my apartment.(2)

(2) Come to think of it, every show on Telemundo seems to have dancing-chicas-in-thongs.(3)

(3) Man, I need to learn Spanish.

Futurama reruns are shown weekdays on TBS, I think. (Season 2 DVDs come out Tuesday). IMHO, Univision has better eye candy than Telemundo (Sábado Gigante, Caliente). I'll watch just about anything that has Michelle Vieth (1, 2) in it, and she's actually a very good actress.

Can someone explain to me why TLC now has home decorating shows on all the time?

My mom has it. My dad and I have Time Warner Cable. The DirectTV box has coax, audio/video, S-video, and DB-15 data connections. I don't know what the data connector is used for. It also has a phone jack which needs to be connected to a phone line only if you want to order PPV movies(which my mom never does). I put up and aimed the antenna myself(there's a menu for that) and ran the line to the living room. Reception and picture quality are very good-when it's not very cloudy out. This doesn't mean that every time it rains the picture craps out, just that when you have a really bad storm it will.

Oddly, because I don't watch much TV, I find commercials tremendously entertaining. Usually moreso than the shows that are wrapped around them.

Compared to most of the junk on network, the commercials are better. However, I still personally can't stand them, or the concept of somebody trying to sell me something I don't want or need. Whenever I watch any show regularly on network, which these days is only Enterprise, I tape it when it first airs but I'll usually be doing something else at the same time, like playing MS Train Simulator or posting or SF, and pay just enough mind to the show to pause and unpause around commercials. Later on, I watch the show in it's entirety, free of nonsensical interruptions. Commercials are like reading a book and being interrupted every five or six minutes. Why can't the sponsors just stick a quick announcement at the beginning and end of a show, maybe something like: "This show sponsored by Ford, makers of the most gas guzzling SUVs on the planet."? The sheer frequency of interruptions is what I find most annoying. No wonder most people these days get annoyed when it takes more than a minute to explain something. They've been conditioned that way by TV.

It's cute, campy and smart. The Simpsons is similar.

I enjoy Seinfeld. Theirs nothing like taking a mundane topic and stripping off all the subtle layers of detail to end up with something still mundane. It's basicly a show about playing with words and how people with odd habits can be friends.

With the standard STB, I have seen a couple with digital audio out (I don't think the RCA ones do).

Some of the Sony receivers have coax digital out. Maybe the newer ones have optical out, I wouldn't be suprised.
