After I installed my new D-link 655, I noticed that a bad URL typed into my browser (Chrome or IE) would bring up a Yahoo search through www1.dlinksearch.com. I can't even figure out what this is called. Is this a function of my DNS server? How do I change it to something other than Yahoo?

Sorry for the stupid question, but this has been bugging me for a while!

Looks like your router is hijacking DNS entries. That would make me really mad. IIRC, I read something about this on Slashdot quite some time ago. I seem to remember something about them releasing a new firmware that didn't do it.

I think I figured it out. I followed the instructions below and I no longer get this foolishness.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1472515

log into your Router:
Goto Setup/Internet On the bottom of the page click on the manual Internet Setup Button.

Uncheck the "Advanced DNS Service" box. Save settings and reboot. (Your done)

Here is the explanation on the Router:
Advanced DNS Service : Advanced DNS is a free security option that provides Anti-Phishing to protect your Internet connection from fraud and navigation improvements such as auto-correction of common URL typos.

I guess I don't have that on mine. I'm also using the OpenDNS servers and not my ISP's.

FWIW, dlinksearch.com seems to be utilizing opendns.

Code:
Domain Name: DLINKSEARCH.COM
   Registrar: MONIKER ONLINE SERVICES, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.moniker.com
   Referral URL: http://www.moniker.com/whois.html
   Name Server: AUTH1.OPENDNS.COM
   Name Server: AUTH2.OPENDNS.COM
   Name Server: AUTH3.OPENDNS.COM
