What's a cheap but decent SATA controller?

I'm looking to add a large drive to my HTPC for recording HD to, and it seems some of the very large drives are either SATA only, or the SATA version of the drive is cheaper than the PATA version. The machine doesn't have a built in SATA controller, so I need an add-in card.

I have a couple of the Syba cheapies as well. They're a fine way to add storage without RAID. They use the same chip as the $60 adaptec card. I wouldn't say that's an endorsement of Syba's card, but rather that it might be a mark against a $60 Adaptec card.

I'd even think about an eSATA host bus adapter with internal and external SATA connectivity. A standard external SATA connection can come in handy for other hard drives or SATA peripherals.

But, then again, the Syba cheapie is hard to pass up.
