I just re-discovered this article in a year-old email message:


SLIDELL, Louisiana (Reuters) -- Two people left a 15-mile-long- trail of doughnuts after they took a Krispy Kreme truck from a parking lot and fled, police said Thursday.

The truck was parked at a convenience store with its rear doors open and engine running while a deliveryman carried doughnuts inside, said Slidell police spokesman Rob Callahan.

Two suspects hopped in the truck and sped off to the nearby town of Lacombe, with doughnuts spilling out along the way, he said.

They abandoned the truck when they were spotted by police responding to reports of a dangerous driver who was losing his doughnuts. Passenger Rose Houk, 31, was captured, but the driver, whose name was not released, ran away.

Houk told police they had been smoking crack cocaine for several hours before the incident, which occurred Wednesday, said Callahan.

Their motive for taking the Krispy Kreme truck was unclear.

"I don't know if it was a need for transportation or if they just had the munchies," he said.

It was a close first for me, either plain or apple fritter. When I was a mechanic that was my morning break: an apple fritter and a diet cola (my favorite was Tab). However, I have now aged and realize the fool heartedness it eating those abominations, and now, when the odd event during the year occurs, and I actually have a donut, it will more then likely be a plain old fashioned.

As a side note, I do not like Krispy Keme donuts, they're too sweet for my taste.

Krispy Kremes are disgusting. I mean, really, really gross. I've had chicken from KFC that had less grease.

My favorite didn't make the list. I'm partial to a large, cinnamon and glaze donut covered with peanut crumbs that's locally called a "Bear Claw". Yum.

Also, I greatly prefer the substance of Cake donuts to the airy nothingness of Yeast donuts.

That's one thing I definitely miss about Canada: Tim Horton's. They had really nice donuts.

I had to go with the apple fritter just because of the volume. I think KK plain donuts are the best of all the donuts I've had. Although there is a bakery walking distance to work that have very good pasteries.

At a previous job I worked at a baking company. Samples were erverywhere and free. I gained 30 pounds but It's to be expected after eating two-three cinnamon rolls for breakfast for a couple years.

No option for all of the above? I love just about any type of donut, but I definitely prefer Dunkin' Donuts over Krispy Kreme.

I love plain Krispy Kreme donuts. Barring that, a chocolate glazed (this is actually a chocolate cake donut with a sugar glazing), chocolate dip (yeast), honey dip, or honey cruller from Tim Horton's will do just fine! BTW, I am currently living in Hamilton, which I believe has the 2nd most donut shops (virtually all Tim Horton's) per square kilometer in the country.

Ah, yes, that grease of KK donuts. But it does stay fresh for up to 2 days, which is impossible with most other donuts, which start to harden after 8 hours or so (cake style donuts can last about a day, though).

Krispy Kremes are sickeningly sweet as well as greasy. Dunkin Donuts are pretty good, especially their crullers. The only thing is they make me constipated if I eat more than a few. :bibber:

Just thinking about all those fatty donuts is enough to give one diarrhea. :roll: No wonder so many of us Americans are obese.

Yeah, nothing at all like Euroland, where Mayonaise (emulisified fat) is considered the topping of choice for French Fries.
.. or Germany and surrounding nations, where you can get a fried chocolate bar.

The big thing, I think, is that American portions of food are enormous, and we eat out a lot.

I can go to McDonalds (not my favorite place by any means, but better than some) and order a couple of Quarter-Pound Cheeseburgers and a bag of fries the size of my foot, wash it down with a 64-oz. sugar soda, and not feel like a total pig, 'cause my 105lb. co-worker ate the same thing.

I can come up with countless examples like that.

donuts aren't as hugely popular here in Oz as they are in the States so there isn't such a large range here. I don't klnow of any specialist Donut stores anyway, perhaps some of the other Aussies do though.

of the kind we have here, they are pretty much only plain, glazed, jam filled or a combination of. my favourite type are strawberry glazed jam-filled (yeah right, strawberry glaze )


btw, mayonnaise on chips is Dutch and it's great it's not any old mayonnaise though, it's a more traditional type of savoury mayonnaise with egg and milk product.

here here! mayonnaise is the only thing to put on chips. or maybe just a splash of vinegar.

i always used to love the pineapple glaze donuts from 7eleven etc... but find them a bit too sweet nowadays. the best donuts in Australia come form the donut vans on the side of the road. fresh, hot and jam filled. mmmmm aaaagggghhhh donuts

I forgot the vinger... it 's good on normal sized chips (large fries?) but not on weeny little french fries.

I like the traditional sort: dimply round ones with sugar dusted on the outside and strawberry jam on the inside. (I think it's strawberry - something red, anyway.) Only thay have to be piping hot, straight out of the oven thingie.

The best ones are not exactly round, they're sort of like basketballs with some of the air let out.

I nearly always burn my mouth when I take a first cautious bite and its OK, so I take a great big greedy bite, and the boiling hot jam squirts out onto my tongue! But it's worth it - that sort is the best. In fact, any other sort isn't really a donut at all, just a sort of bun thingie.

Tea, the "something red" stuff is actually made from turnips. A friend of my mum's worked in a bakery and all they do is boil up a big pot of turnips once a month or so, add a heap of sugar, artificial flavours and colours and voila!!! red stuff

KK Choc Glazed are my fave. Choc all the way thru with lubbly glazing on top. Coronary will be worth it.
