Came across this on a friend's XP machine - take a look:

It suddenly decided to change the icon of the C: drive to a generic one. Tried changing it under "Tools" menu, but the correct icon is displayed and I tried to change it to something else and then change it back again but to no effect. In fact, it now opens in a new window when double clicked, which it didn't do before.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

This might work:

Get TweakUI installed on the machine

In TweakUI go: My Computer>>>Drives. Uncheck the box next to "C:", Click OK, and reboot.

After rebooting, go back into the same place in TweakUI, check the box next to "C:", click OK, and reboot again.

Cross your fingers.

I am omnipresent
TweakUI should be part of the default intstall.

It also has a "repair" feature that can be used to rebuild icon lists and stuff. I was going to suggest playing with that a bit.
