While looking for something else, I found a CD for Drive Image 7. I installed it on a computer and ran the program. Surprise! The GUI, menu and wizards look almost identical to Acronis. Even connecting to a network is like Acronis.
You can make a backup and restore files without leaving Windows too.
I also found a CD labeled Powerquest V2i. This appears to be an upgrade of Drive Image 7.
If my memory is still functioning correctly, Drive Image disappeared (supposedly bought by Symantec) and shortly after Acronis appeared.
Hmmm...you don't suppose there is a connection between the two. :bleh:

I believe the two are unrelated. I have many versions of TI, some from around the time when DI was DOS based. However, TI 10 was the first one that worked properly to restore some SafeCast activated programs.

This may be incorrect, but recall that the Powerquest V2i was a pro version of the consumer DI 7. DI 7 used a Windows PE that only allowed restoring images from the CD, whereas images had to be created on the computer after installation. Many people were unhappy and discovered TI at that time.
