Any recommendations on a FREE DVD Decoder that works with Media Player 9 & 10?

Google shows dozens, but which are the best??

Thanks,
Bozo :mrgrn:

If we're talking about for use with film based material, it is my opinion that the Dscaler 5 decoder is tops of the class.

BTW, if you're open to the suggestion of using another media player, Media Player Classic has built in decoders that are very good too...probably based on the libmpeg2 library but I'm not certain.

I am omnipresent
I'm not absolutely sure how legal it is, but the Kazaa Lite Mega codec pack (which is free of spyware and other crap - I've checked repeatedly) that's part of my standard install offers six or eight possible MPEG2 decoders.

Elecard might be another option. I think their decoder is distributed free-of-charge. Absent any other information, the dScaler MPEG2 decoder is one that I know to be 100% freeware and of high quality.

You could always buy a bunch of PowerDVD install discs. I think those are sold by the pound.
