I'm wondering how one gets an email address:

Z.....@post.harvard.edu

Seems strange that a person in LA would still have a Harvard email address. Is this some sort of scam?

Yes.
They have an email program for graduates that gives you an email address:
'....@post.harvard.edu

I thought it might be a department, since they also have addresses
like @law.harvard.edu

I can see your problem -- No one from such a snooty place as Harvard would ever even consider visiting LA being that anyone there is obviously trailer trash. So it must be a scam.
