Have a large (>120 GB) ATA or SATA drive that won't allow you access to its full capacity? (Or, Intel's old Intel Application Accellerator is not compatible with your "new" mobo?)

  • Minimum of Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows 2000 (SP3)

  • Run REGEDIT.

  • Go to the Registry subkey:

    [list:c8531412a8] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters

[*] From the Edit menu, select New, the DWORD Value.

[*] Enter the name EnableBigLBA, then press Enter.

[*] Double-click the new value, set it to 1, then click OK.

[*] Close the registry editor.

[*] Restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Somewhere in time.
The MS KB talks only about Win XP. Does that mean the Registry hack is still required for W2k? Can somebody clarify? Thanks!

Yes, as far as I know, W2K requires the reg hack. The ATAPI.SYS solution is XP specific
