The display on the laptop does not work unless the computer has booted in Windows. However, that is not good as there is no way to select boot device, otherwise access the BIOS, or to use amy utilities. Is this just some Windows bullsh*t or a crappy BIOS support?

I am omnipresent
It's probably a crappy BIOS. The Thinkpads and Pro/Elitebooks I'm familar with allow BIOS access while connected to an external display.

Well of course every laptop should do that. I assume it would work with the proper docking station, but I was not planning to buy that. I am using the HDMI to DVI cable, but I don't think that should matter.
