I was particularly enlightened by the concept of healthy participation in the stock market being buying for income rather than for resale. Buying for income would be expecting income from growth of the company while buying for resale would be expecting income indirectly through a rise in stock price.

I can back this up based on stories from my grandfather. He talked of owning a stock as owning a piece of the company, and of dividend payments as them thanking him. The only time he would consider selling a stock would be if he needed the money for something.
