Do we not have problems like that because we're smaller? Are we going to run into hilarious issues like these some day?

I'd be very upset if we lost 4 hours of posts here or I had posted on SR in the time period in question.

Yoikes! I just visited SR -- haven't "been there" in a quite a while (fortunately, it seems).

But then again, it's not hard to realise why SR sucks nowadays, after looking through the B&G section. Perusing through some of the blather there, about all I can say is that I definitely don't have the time or patience to slog through SR's many bushel baskets of foolish discourse, misdirected diatribes, jingoistic fervor, xenophobic exhibitionism, and l-o-n-g meandering posts filled with poor grammar.

*shrugs* I don't visit the B&G section of SR very much, as I rarely have much to say in those threads. I stick to the Computers forum and maybe post once or twice a day.

In a way, it saddens me to see many of the old regulars (B.C. - before crash) from there post infrequently, if at all. A few, like russofris and Pradeep, have stuck around, thank heavens.

Speaking of Frank (russofris), does he frequent SF? I don't think I've seen him around here yet (not that I've been here very long myself!).

Accidents happen.

Don't be so harsh. Afterall, there aren't many (any?) dedicated storage-only reviewing sites out there...

It seems that Eugene got most of it back, and by replacing the forums back deleted those two posts that I linked. This was not Eugene's fault (there is no clarification at the SR forums though), from what I understood the ISP they used did something.

Actually, Frank got his post count over 2000, and started to use a new username; Big Buck Hunter or BBH.

Cheers,

Jan

I invited Frank twice in the last year, but he declined. I think he enjoys throwing his weight around there.

Frank, along with a handful of others - Balding Ape, Future Shock, and Mickey are examples - are all that stands between SR and the barbarians. Better to have Frank over there holding up a candle for sense and civilisation, I think.

That's true. I still get a chuckle when I see Frank's new handle, though. He said he wanted something that sounded more like a porn star's name.

Come on now, I rarely have anything to add to the discourse here but I have occasionaly been able to help at SR. Guess I just lurk at this end of the world though. :) Perhaps I could do more...

I though the rebuild went well. As far as the B&G at SR, I seldom go there and have only posted a few times.

sr is littered with people who can't use google and are obsessed with raid0, but at least the computer section isn't jingoistic/cliquey. i've had about all i can take of the 'we're better!' separatist whatever opinions on here. most of the recent content here has only seemed to serve the purpose of confirming the majority opinion.

... and last week, when someone wanted better firsthand information about SANs and FC, which group was more helpful?

This site doesn't have ads. This site has clear rules for forum conduct and some transparency in its administration.

The fact that a large group of SR's regulars moved en masse to this site instead speaks for itself.

we all have a good time here, don't we honold?

I appreciate everyone's presence, even if I don't always agree with the content of their posts.

I can empathize with honold's view. It makes me squirm when someone starts another SR bashing thread - not that this one started out that way ...

I agree that there sometimes seems to be nothing going on here but another round of mutual back-slapping, but then things seem to move on.

Because we don't have many newbies, there is less opportunity for experts to hold forth; but then you don't have to wade through 50 nonsensical posts to find an answer to your question. :-?

Some members are quite active on SR, and only retreat here for solace.

I have to admit, I started a SR bashing thread a couple of months ago. But at the time, I truly felt that the atmosphere in the computer forum (which is the only one I visit there) was beginning to get hostile....perhaps it was just christmas time stress etc (my own, and in general). Anyways, that aspect is now fine these days IMO....its just that, as honold pointed out, its filled with an endless obsession with RAID O....or questions that google could take care of in a second. Still some good information to be found (which Cougtek pointed out back in my bash thread), just its getting harder...the signal is getting weaker and the noise is growing.

Talking about signal and the disappearence of forum members, anyone been in contact with cas? No peep out of him on either board for a while....hope he's not mixed up in DesertDestruction 2.

I am one of those who would fall under that description, although those who know me from SR will also know that I also tend to hibernate from time to time.

The reason why I didn't fully switch over to SF with the rest of the crew is that I am not a regular patron of the B&G / P&B scene. I like the greater activity of the Computers section over at SR; there is usually something that piques my interest every day, as opposed to maybe once a week over here. However, there is no question that when I am inclined to sit around and have a bite to eat with a nice cold one, the SF P&B is my destination of choice.

Speaking of the dreck that can be found over at SR, it's not the google-challenged newbies that irritate me as much as the small handful of people like its.fubar and mann with their trolling style. There doesn't seem to be a strong community over at SR that is able to handle these ruffians and put them in their place (not surprising, since much of the heart and soul of SR left to come here).

That would describe me fairly accurately, too.

Word. Trying to use logic and reason doesn't seem to be getting anywhere with certain posters, though I take solace that maybe someone else is gaining some benefit if we at least keep things civil. Maybe we won't be able to change people's (set) views, but it won't be for lack of trying. ;)

It certainly feels like it's time to start up some new discussion topics over at SR, just to get some variety out there. Hmmm. Just need to come up with some good topics to spur debate.

While I've slackened off going to SR as well, especially to the B&G, I'm here now because of a comment Tannin made in a B&G post at SR. More is in Piyo's thread, which I hijacked before reading this one.

We appreciate all of those that have come to this forum on their own free will or at the cruel and brutal behest of Tsar Tannin.
