So it appears that the network I'm now on (college campus cable-modem) won't allow traffic through to external SMTP servers. I can't call them to complain as I'm not supposed to be here in the first place, and I don't have a user name for theirs for the same reason. If anyone has any suggestions I would LOVE to hear them.

How about tunneling your connection?

When I worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, we used to tunnel through the squid server using HTTP. Slow, but effective.

Err...I don't know how to do this.

Since I am in control of the Exchange server on the other end of the connection, I'm trying to set up other ports. We'll see how it goes.

I tried telling my SMTP server to listen on non-standard ports, and for outlook to send via these non-standard ports, and I'm getting the same errors...

"SMTP server not responding"

Thoughts?

I've got my GMail account working, but I'd like to be able to send from my other accounts (the ones I own and do business under). I will likely be living here for at least a few months and would like to be able to do business as usual.

It's looking more and more like I'll just need to set up a VPN link to my office and tunnel all my traffic through it.

POP Gmail

I don't even receive mail at my gmail account. For that matter I only use IMAP. It works fine. I would not recomend it for a long term solution though.
