I have the option of buying a couple of the new Gigabyte GA-7N400PRO motherboards at a fairly reasonable price (about USD110), considering how much gear comes with them.

However, I've balked because the only review I could find (at Overclockers NZ) found that the multiplier unlocking didn't work on their sample. And it's still more expensive than the Epox 8RDA+, which incudes almost everything we could want anyway, except possibly an expanded audio (SPDIF In/Out etc) adaptor - we don't need ATA RAID, and I'm not in a rush for SATA ... yet.

Any info or views?

Unlocking the multiplier means you or the end user can reset an 1833MHz XP2500 to 1800MHz, but with a 200MHz FSB (which is not overclocking the chipset by any means), pushing it to XP2600 without any stress whatsoever. Of course, the benefit in some applications will be more pronounced. I'd regard this as no different to the traditional tuning of the BIOS that we used to do years ago.

Of course, the user may also like the idea of a gentle overclock to 2000MHz, which yields XP2900 performance. And then there's what mad overclockers like LiamC get up to ...

OTOH, I wonder what I could acheive with a water cooling rig and some high power 120mm case fans? Probably a fried rig and industrial deafness.
