Good news and bad news. NEC & Sony opticals

The good news is that Sony will no longer be manufacturing thir pox-ridden optical drives in-hous as of next year.

The bad news is that they are setting up a shared manufacturing facility with NEC, and Sony will own 55% of it. That seems to say that Sony drives will live on, and NEC drives won't.

I'm wondering what the impact on LiteOn is in all of this.

That NEC - LiteOn story that I posted about a while ago was denied by NEC, but the wording in their denial was, as astute readers observed, highly suspetable to interpretation - namely keywords pointed to there likely to have been truth in the matter.
