I was recently infected with a virus called Hilroti, I killed it and removed it, but my primary and secondary drives don't show up now in Device Manager or Disk Management although my DVD and CD drives shows up with no problem. It is visible in Explorer and I don't think it has anything to do with the drives themselves, anyway to have XP restore them ? I already tried Restore Point and it didn't work, it just got the virus back ! ...LoL tried Google , but nothing about this issue !

The system is now stable and virus is dead, ran Malware and AVG in Safe mode and deleted rundll.exe, just need a way to get my HDD back to show in Device Manager and Disk Management. I tried deleting primary and secondary IDE and controller in Device Manager hoping XP would reload them, they did, but still the HDDs does not show up.

You might try a reair from the XP CD.
Boot from the XP cd. Go past the first repair option, tell it to do a fresh install. Agree to the EULA. Then a message should come up saying Setup is looking for previous versions of XP.
When it finds XP installed, you will get an option to repair it. This is the repair you should run.
It will not destroy any of your settings or programs.
When done you will have to re-install all the XP patches and service packs.

Don't get used to using this type of repair as MS took it out of Vista and Win 7.

There is a rescan disks action available in Disk Management. Did you try that?

Yes, I tried that many time and it still doesn't fix it.

I might have to do a XP CD repair as Bozo suggested, but that involves some work that a full install would be better option if I have to reinstall all the service packages from MS.
