Sorry to say but the Sox are living in a dreamworld. I can see they're happy that they at least were not swept but I don't think they have a chance.

But who knows...the Pistons didn't have a chance against the Lakers, either. :D

I haven't given up on them yet, but you're right, statistically the odds are against them to beat the yanks 4 games in a row.

All I'm hoping for now, is that they tire out the yanks so it reduces their chance to win another world series. :mrgrn: A couple more 14 inning games should do the trick.

It isn't going to happen, so don't get your hopes up :mrgrn: No team down 3-0 has ever come back to win a best-of-seven series in MLB history (or even taken it to a deciding game come to that). The weather forecast for NY tonight is wet though, so the Sox may last another day before the inevitable happens :D

Ok, don't get too smug :p - it's not as if the Sox haven't won the A.L pennant since 1918....... There's still the small matter of beating the Cards or Astros before you can celebrate. But to be perfectly honest, I expected the Yanks to go down after losing game 6 - Lieber was their only real hope of salvaging the series after blowing those leads in games 4 & 5 and when he couldn't pull it out, they were done. The NLCS meanwhile is perfectly poised - if the Cards can beat the Rocket in game 7, then I could see them giving the Sox all they can handle and then some ;) If the Astros win though, my money would (reluctantly) be on the Sox in the Series as they've got a deeper lineup and better starting pitching.

Now I have to hear my father moan all winter about how the Yankees couldn't win one lousy game out of four. I've heard psychiatrists in New York will be doing a booming business during the next few months. This is the ultimate humiliation for Yankee fans-being beaten four straight, by the Red Sox, and having the Red Sox celebrating on their field.

I suppose looking at it from a logical standpoint, the Yankees weren't even supposed to make it into the postseason with the team they had most of the year. It's a testament to Joe Torre and the players that they got as far as they did.

The most expensive baseball team in history wasn't supposed to make it? Suprising to say the least!

Dare I say the Yankees would not have a fraction of their success if there were a salary cap in baseball.

Money can't buy everything. IIRC Baltimore had the most expensive roster in baseball a few years ago and finished in last place. The Mets have a pretty expensive team as well yet did pis poorly the last two years. There were a lot of injuries on the Yankees this year. Giambi couldn't play in the postseason at all. That may very well have meant winning one more game if he could. And there were quite a few new faces. It takes time to get everyone playing together well when you have new people coming in. Remember the years when the Yankees practically had the same team? They made winning the World Series look easy. Once the roster settles in that could very well happen again. As it is, I think being in the World Series 6 out of the last 9 years, and winning 4 of those times, isn't too shabby.

Too bad my father doesn't post on discussion boards. He probably wouldn't shut up in this thread. I really don't have much interest in baseball other than when the Yankees or Mets make the postseason, but since my father is a rabid Yankees fan I get all the details whether I want them or not.

Agreed. But, a $60M difference in payroll (180M for Yanks vs. 120M for the Sox) is still a pretty high premium to pay for a team to lose 4 playoff games in a row. I'm betting there will be some management changes in New York this year....

There was no smug, I'm just excited they beat the odds. I know this is only part of the victory.

As for the yanks and their disabilities, the sox have a few of their own as well. Schilling and his ankle, Nomar, change of management... The fact is, the better team won and the yankees lost fair and square. I'm not at all saying the yanks are a bad team. :mrgrn:

Well, the Cards defused the Rocket in the NLCS decider (2 seven game championship series for the second year running, and good ones at that 8) ), so it's Cardinals - Red Sox for the big one. Both times these two have met before (1946 & 1967) the series went the full seven games, so given the talent levels on both teams, it could quite possibly happen again. It'd be a shame if Clemens' career ended on a losing note like that, but I've my doubts as to whether he'll be back next year (another Cy Young award is a decent consolation prize though).

I heard about that on the radio, that's very sad. Not knowing what the real story is, it's hard to say what provoked the officer to launch a non-lethal object at this girl. :-?

I'm glad for you Doug and Boston that the Sox won but couldn't they come up with someone better than that awful American idol singer? :puke-r: :puke-l: That alone made me wish the Yankees had won. The singing cop the Yankees usually use can actually carry a tune. This girl sure can't. My ears are still ringing from that awful cacophony. :x :x

Who was it, Kelly Clarkson, I missed that part so I can't really comment on her performance? They just had Donna Summer singing God Bless America a minute ago and it was pretty good. At least she was able to carry a tune, even if it was a bit slow.

Up 6 to 1! Lets go Sox! :rabbit:

Yep, that's who it was. She couldn't sing her way out of a paper bag. All those American idol singers strain to hit their notes. Besides that, it looked like she was lip singing and her mouth wasn't even synchronized with the words. I'm sure glad they didn't bring her back today. She basically made a mockery out of God Bless America (which incidentally IMO isn't that great a song to begin with).
