How to Dump Windows Volume GUIDs?

I'd like to try to create an image of a clean Windows XP install with core drivers and applications that I restore when I wish. The issue is that Ghost won't pull the volume's GUID unless I image an entire disk, and, if I don't restore the GUID or install the partition exactly back to the same position it was before, it may end up with a different drive letter. When that happens, bad things occur.

Does anyone here know how to get around this GUID/drive letter issue?

Not an answer to your question, but I've never had this happen. Do you mean if you restored what used to be the system partiiton at the front of the drive to a non-active partition farther back in the drive?

I've used Winternals ERD Commander to fix that sort of problem (the "very bad things happen" one), but that's not exactly a free tool.

Whether the partition is active or not has nothing to do with it. If you backup a boot partition and, then, restore it without its original GUID, it can end up with a different drive letter.

I'd like to be able to create and image and place it in any partition, as well as be able to restore multiple copies to different partitions.

Sysprep will take care of SIDs, but, to my knowledge, not volume GUIDs.

It's good that there is a tool... it's bad that we don't know what it is.

I tried searching, and didn't come up with anything.
