I just looked at this more closely, why are you using #rbar and #horbar? Why not just define one bar?

Same reason as all the rezt of the crappy, unredable, nonsensicial code on the internet: bugz in IE. (Version 5 is the usual culptit.) The right-hand image (wander) makes it quite complicated. I've learned a fair bit more about browzer bugz now, and could probably recode it with a hack to avoid the hack.
