I have in my hand an AthlonXP 1700+ that appears to have failed.
The problem: No stickers or markings indicating retail or OEM status. This is a very old chip. It's from a time when I was buying retail only (I started buying some OEMs again some few months ago for my personal use)?

Markings as follows:

AX1700dmt3c
agoga 0204mpm
41f32110950

From the Unlocking Tbreds thread, http://mp3.zonebg.com/cpu/cpu.php was mentioned. It reports:
Athlon XP Processor
Core Palomino
CPU Model 6
Manufacturing Process 180 nm
Approximate Transistor Count 37.5 million
Approximate Die Size 128 sq. mm
Performance Rating 1700+
Working frequency 1467 MHz
Package Type OPGA
Operating Voltage 1.75 V
Max Die Temperature 90° C
L1 Cache Size 128 KB
L2 Cache Size 256 KB
Multiplier 11x
FSB Frequency 266 MHz
Stepping Code AGOGA
Manufacture Year 2002

But it doesn't mention OEM vs. Retail. Is that info even coded on the chips?

From AMD's somewhat limited support site:

Q: How do I know if my processor is covered by the three (3) year Processor in a Box Limited Warranty ?

A: The AMD Processor in a Box comes with a ball-bearing fan and heatsink. For further assistance you should contact AMD at (408) 749-AMD9 in the U.S. only, fax 852-295-63996 in Asia, and 44 (0) 1276-803187 in Europe.

Maybe a phone call will reveal the truth.

Drat. I was hoping one of the folks here who have actually RMA'd a CPU would be able to help without my having to make that call...
