Actually, Tea, I think you'll find that "monkey" has a dual meaning - same as "parrot". Sometimes people use "monkey" to mean all creatures in that branch of the evolutionary tree: true monkeys, new world monkeys, apes, and so on. Other times, they seem to mean just the true monkeys, and probably the new world monkeys as well.
Same as "parrot", which (properly speaking) means only the parrots and lorikeets, but is used more broadly as well, to include those groups as well as the cockatoos (which belong, of course, to a different but related family).
"Ignorant bloodthirsty self-destructive barbarian savages", on the other hand, seems to refer to humans without any sense of ambiguity.
