Is it just me or just this job lean just a little too heavily toward sales expertise. Granted, it is a management position but some technical skill should be required, no?

To be a manager in compusa, maybe.
To be a manager at gateway, I doubt it.
Having worked at Circuit City, I can tell you the managers had to have actually worked in the department. So they would know computers from a salespersons perspective. But sales skills was more important than computer knowledge. Often it becomes they hire one expert and everybody relies on him/her.

Very true. I worked @ CompUSA for a while. I was hired for my technical knowlede (the only one in the store) and promoted quickly 'cause of my "people skills" (read: manipulation skills).

if you're in charge of hiring people I believe you should have some technical knowledge... or atleast have a test that could determine someones technical knowledge.

I applied for a job at a computer chain store earlier this year and I got 100% on each of the technical knowledge tests, however I was not hired because the chain store outsourced to a hiring company that for some reason or another did not feel that I should be hired.

Blake, you knew to much. Why would you sell stuff that you know isn't good? They're afraid of having that type of a sales person.

By far the most difficult part of a management position such as the one being advertised is the supervising of employees. If anyone here has ever done that they know what I mean. How do you think my soul became so twisted? Years ago I managed a branch office of a finance company while supervising the management of another branch at the same time. About 25 employees overall. It was stress ctiy - trust me. Whoever takes that job will earn every penny of whatever Gateway agrees to pay him or her.

It is except that you cannot call their parents when they misbehave.
