Looking to move the site

I finally worked out the details and I would like to move the site to a better (hopefully more reliable) host. I have a test forum setup using our database at my friend’s domain. There isn't any traffic on his site yet so this will only be a temporary test.

Can anyone who has a few minutes, head over to http://www.sports2sim.com/temp/ and give me feedback on the speed of the site compared to this site. I realize that not all of the graphics are the same, but the database is almost identical up to last night around midnight.

Feel free to post crap in it, I do not plan to keep that database, it is only a test. I'm looking for feedback regarding speed, mostly for the folk’s over-seas. That site is hosted by www.voxtreme.com and they recently upgraded that server.

If everyone feels the speed is sufficient, I will go ahead and start the process and follow with more details later.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide me with. I think the test forum is faster then this one, but I would like others opinions on this.

Thanks,

Doug

Hoolie Doolie, where did that broadband link come from? That was my first impression, Doug.

Then I did a back-to back timing and discovered that burst.net is near enough to equal for me at present. I think I'm actually hitting my 56k limit at the moment - it's late at night here and I've got Dingo Blue's network more or less to myself. SF is as fast as I've ever seen it right now too.

I'll check again later on, in the morning (my time) when things are usually slower.

I'm not the person you need to be asking. It's all slow to me. But the other siite seemed marginally less slow. Which is just about as ringing an endorsement as I can make.

I'm eastcoast broadband and it feels faster in certain areas. The tests I ran were back-to-back loading of the second ATC page and the vseek thread. The row of smileys near the top of ATC came up slightly quicker but the whole vseek thread came up 1-1.5s quicker.

This was of course after I flushed IEs cache.

It felt plenty fast from here. Maybe a little faster than Burst, maybe not. But for me, speed isn't the issue with Burst, it's reliability.

I realize reliability is a whole other set of issues.

I just loaded the first page of the G@h thread and while it took 39sec for the IE golbe to stop spinning on SF it took only 21sec from the beta site.
This from a 26400 modem connection.

It is actually not that bad even with all the images turned on.

What do you think of this mob?

They are owned by the same people that host/manage my personal e-mail, which has been good so far. Pricing isn't bad, to my way of thinking...

They offer a good amount of bandwidth, but their drive space is small. They also charge a $30 setup fee which I don't care for. :) The problem is that their are so many places offering web hosting that I don't know where to start some times. I've seen how voxtreme handles problems and it made me happy. When I've had questions I post them in thei forum and I get an answer usually in a few hours.

My plan was to try them with our site, but this time I would pay by month. If they end up being a poor service, I'll look to move us to a different company. If that doesn't sound like a decent plan, let me know.

I did a quick tracert to the service you listed and this is what I came back with:

Tracing route to ipowerweb.com [38.144.87.70]

You don't wanna see my traceroutes. It takes about 160ms just to get to the US west coast from here (which by the way is much much better than it used to be before Southern Cross went in, the average RTD to the west coast was 350ms...).
