After I emphasized the importance of the Winblows XP product key sticker (as opposed to the booklet and CD), a customer managed to lose it. I came across the rather wonderful Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder that reveals the product key for Windows and Office. Unfortunately, this installation is comprehensively non-bootable and the wpa.dbl file is missing (although the wpa.bak file is still there).

Does anyone have any experience with this scenario? Will M$, out of the goodness of their hearts, issue a replacement product key for a nominal amount?

That doesn't seem very MS like...

I used that program yesterday at work to retrieve the company's Volume License Key for some lab PCs. It's absurd that we're supposed to buy individual copies of Windows XP when the company has a site license just because we don't want their IT department managing these development systems.
