Going back to three year warranties.

This can only be a good thing. For one thing it means I can go back to buying the odd retail drive if I want. :)

I'm glad I've abstained from buying hard drives during this time. It still makes me mad they're planing this warranty game. I wonder if they thought of this from the beginning? Nothing new to offer our users, so lets take a hit on sales for a shot while, provide less support on warranty claims, and then reintroduce an extended warranty like it's a bonus.

Hrm... maybe they'll go even further and start upping warranties...
3 year... 5 year... Upgrade plan... where they pro rate your drive and ship u the upgrade of your choice....

I'm in the market for some new 3 year+ warranty 200+GB drives...
now, to decide on a brand...

Contrary to some people’s experience, but not to mine, I would recommend the brown-box* packaged WD2000JB drives. They come with a three-year warranty.

* The retail kits do not have a three-year warranty, well not at this time.

Geez. My porn doesn't even come in plain brown wrappers any more. THey MUST be ashamed of their products.
