moon angle (pictures)

A mutual friend of mine has a nice 5.5" telescope (make/model escapes me at the moment). He said there is a 35mm attachment available...

A telescope isn't needed if you want to take photos of astronomical objects that you can see with naked eye.

I have oodles of photos of comets, the milky way, and detailed images of the moon that I shot using just a Nikon F3 + SportsFinder, Nikkor lenses between 85mm and 135mm, and an electronic cable release. These were all shot on Kodachrome 64, Fujichrome 100, and Fujichrome 200 slide film. Tripod used was a heavy duty Bogen. The imagery looks like it came from an observatory telescope.

Also have a photo sequence of a rare moon mirage (moon goes down below horizon, then mysteriously "rises again briefly for a couple of minutes, then disappears).

I agree with what you say. I wanted to try the telescope just to get some extra zoom/detail if at all possible.

I need to get an electronic cable release, but for now I can used the timed-release shutter without many problems.

I realize it's just the moon and any half-wit such as me can point a camera at it and push the button. The moon is giving me an excuse to snap pictures, so that's what I'm doing.

I lucked out last night. We have a storm hovering over here right now and it's raining. I was able to take the picture just before the clouds rolled in.

My next attempt is to start capturing moon pictures with other objects in the foreground (scenic). That'll be another fun lesson to learn.
