I can't get two monitors to display the same image. :cursin:

One is on the DVI port and the other is connected by HDMI to DVI.
Either the 2nd monitor can be used to extend the desktop (not what I want) or it turns black as if there is no signal. The resolutions can be the same or different; it does not matter. When displays 1 and 2 are switched the exact opposite occurs. Is it just the limitation of the HD5450 video card or something else? OS is XP64. :errr:

No, I did not know it was necessary. That software is so bulky. :(

(borrowed from Mercutio)

The Catalyst software takes up about 50MB, or 0.04% of a 120GB drive.

:study: I must have it confused with something else. It did not work anyway.

The software does not see the 2nd monitor. It must be a Windows thing.

Thanks Mubs, all worship accepted and acknowledged as my due.

But ... the image is 25kB, I checked before pirating Mercutio's bandwidth. It should take less than 6 seconds on dialup. Does your router moonlight as a carrier pigeon?

I'm not going to run out of space or bandwidth, but it does add to the amount of scrolling required to read the thread.

Just to be a little on topic, here, it's a PITA to enable monitor cloning on Catalyst. I have to screw around for five minutes every time I need to do it. But you really should install Catalyst, LM.

I haven't had any issues getting mirroring working on Catalyst. What I do have an issue doing is playing bluray movies on mirrored monitors, even with AnyDVD HD and the latest PowerDVD.

Naw.What Merc said. By big I meant display size. People would have surely gotten irritated to see the same big pic again in my response.

ps: how do you keep your head from being blindingly shiny? I have that problem with my forehead and nose now, and my head will join the gang in the not too distant future.

I'm not viewing anything illegal; I just want to view static images. It must be a Windows problem because both monitors display the POST and the first XP screen, then the second display blanks out.

In Catalyst, does the second monitor appear in the "Attached displays currently disabled" list? Have you tried clicking on the "2" graphic in the detected displays box? Have you clicked the "Detect Displays" button?

Under Windows Display Settings, can you right-click on the "2" graphic and select "Attached"?

I'll have to reinstall Catalyst in the morning, but I think there was no other monitor.
