My boss said 'Merry Christmas" and wants me to get a flat panel so I'm not squinting at my 15" UXGA laptop. While I've no problems with the laptop screen, I'm no fool. I warned him that it could be $1300 or so and he said fine. So, I need some recommendations on a decent LCD that does 1600x1200. We're a Dell shop mostly so I'm eying the Dell 2000FP. Dell also sells Planar, Sony, Viewsonic, and NEC/Mitsu panels although they are all a bit more expensive.

Any suggestions? Or is the 2000FP good enough.

I do mostly office type stuff and no image editing on this rig. The latop has a GeForce4 440 with 32MB RAM which I prefer to drive @ 1600x1200x32bit.

2000fps are great if you're not an action gamer, and only $850.

Thanks for the quick reply. It'll be sitting on my desk at work so it won't be tasked with any gaming. Just MS Office, web development & surfing, and boatloads of Terminal Services sessions.

The company standard is still 15-17" CRTs so I'm definitely out of spec getting this. Funny thing is, my boss can't even order one for himself but he can get one for me.

you WILL NOT regret it. only issue may be the black color if it doesn't match.

I second the 2000FP, awesome clarity. Only problem you may find is that pure black is more a milky gray, but that's a prob with all LCD panels.

John, please post your impressions of the 2000FP after using it for a few days. I hated squinting at my 14.1" UXGA laptop, and I await your findings with bated breath!
