It's worth noting that although DFI boards do suffer from exactly the same limitation DFI have an extremely relaxed view about overclocking (i.e they actually support it) so they will offer support for people who insist on running at 400Mhz or even higher with 4 sticks of RAM, even if they won't actually guarentee that it'll work. They also do mention the problem in thier manuals.

When building my latest system I was surprised to discover that it only cost me about $40 extra for a pair of 1GB 500Mhz DIMMs over 400Mhz ones so I went that way.

With Intel systems chewing up all the memory bandwidth they can get thier hands on they seem to be pulling faster RAM into the mainstream which is pretty handy for people wanting to overclock AMD systems...

Bozo, you can put 4 sticks of RAM in any mainboard for AMD CPUs I've tried it in in the last ... oh .. quite a few years, and not have to do anything. This entire thread is about getting 4 sticks going at overclocked RAM speeds.

Actually to be fair I was asking for stable operation with four DIMM's at the memory's stock rated speed of DDR400 and it couldn't do it. The Supermicro does though, with the same memory modules.

I am beyond my overclocking days, now I just want stable operation and the performance I paid for. You could argue that at 1T and DDR333 I was getting similar performance at DDR400 and 2T, or maybe even better. Again to be fair I don't know what the Supermicro is doing with timing behind the scenes, but it did work without complaint at the rated clock speed.
