In my quest to secure the .com for storageforum, I was not able to afford the name. I wrote to the person owning the .com and they asked for $25,000 USD in order to compensate him on his new start-up venture. He has been sitting on this name for almost a year or more and has done nothing with it. His current storage website is www.networkstorageforum.com if anyone is curious.

My goal was not to switch us to a .com, but rather have anyone who accidently enters a .com will be redirected to the .net.

So in attempts to secure the remaining future of our site, I've purchased the following:

www.storageforum.org
www.storageforum.us
www.storageforum.info

Most of these seem to propagated for me right now. In the next few days these should be available to anyone, and they will redirect you to the storageforum.net home page. In other words, I have parked these domain names on top of sf.net

... And Doug gives me the chance to expound on one of my favorite topics:

The money is in content production and licensing, Doug, not the ads. At this point it's almost impossible for a new site to break in to the stranglehold (e.g. Internet Entertainment Group*, Danni Ashe's site) the largest sites have on traffic, without breaking new ground in the fetish market (and let me say to that: eeeewwwwww).

Most of the ads are coming from a handfull of services, just like doubleclick in the "regular" world, and yes, there's pennies in every page view, but it's just that, pennies, mostly delivered from one site in the network to another (when 5000 little sites all have ads for one of the mega-sites and the mega-site has an ad for one little site, guess where all the traffic goes?).

Someone with unique content and a nice management system can make many thousands in licensing to cookie-cutter sites made by guys who haven't figured out the facts of life in internet pr0n. Plus, looking at things like the "Girls Gone Wild" productions, you may be able to produce such content at exceeding low cost, which of course means that your ROI can be much, much higher.

OK. I'll stop now.

* Since I didn't remember what IEG stood for, I did a google search for "Dr. Laura nude lawsuit", not wanting to visit pop-up hell by going straight to the site. There were two, paid links listed for those results on google. Let me repeat two things: 1. The market is obviously oversaturated and 2. eeeeeewwwww.

I think it'd be cool.

Actually, I know of a couple places along those lines already - one that's run by adult-site webmasters and one that's for fan-types. The adult-site guys have a social club, not unlike our B&G. The fans site (it's a subsite of bomis.com, but I won't link it) has almost zero forum participation despite fairly high traffic.

rec.arts.movies.erotica is really pretty cool, too. I think Ekaf would get a kick out of movies reviewed by the Mullah Onan.
