Considering the main reason spyware/adware & viruses are so prevalent is because of fundamental flaws in the Windows OS & IE browser, they damn well better not charge for those products.

ArsTechnica has news that updates will remain free (last line of the article). This is good news for Windows users.

Personally, I decided to leave the whole debacle behind.
