nVidia GeForce chipset cooler...

Well I managed to secure a replacement for my ever aging TnT2pro, namely a nVidia Geforce2 MX400... though the problem is however it has no chipset cooler, other than the TT Blue Orb (pictured below) what else would make a viable replacement?

Thermal Take claim it is suited to the GeForce 2&3 series of graphics cards, so you'd think in theory a GF3 Ti cooler such as the Vantec IceberQ4 would fit the bill, however Vantec don't make any such claims on their website :(

Any thoughts or suggestions (would be appreciated)?

I'm heading off to the local PC swapmeet (later) this morning... and will probably end up with a TT blue orb 'knock-off' it's a pity, because I really like the IceberQ4 :(

I don't think that anyone who puts a light inside a computer case should count as a human being any more.

Amendment: Anyone who permanently attaches a light inside a computer case no longer counts as a human being.

Happy?

No, not really! :p

The Vantec IceberQ4 is 'the' most efficient cooler for the GeForce2 chipset IMHO, just because it has a 'purdy' blue light shouldn't negate it as an option... while the Bl'orb and Tt Crystal Orb would have to be considered close runners up ;)

Admit it Merc' while your happy to personalize your T'shirts, car maybe (fluffy dice :p) etc. you feel it's wrong to personalize your PC? they are a merely electronic extensions of ourselves after all! :mrgrn:

The LEDs waste energy. Not much, but some. They also increase manufacturing costs, again, though, not by much. I don't care about internal lights; I don't buy cases with clear panels. Seems silly to me. I'd rather look at the PC's monitor than the PC itself. Of course, I'm approaching the Old Fart age category, so I'm probably leaving the demographic they're designing for (but then again, I'm the kind of customer they should want - one with disposable income).

Personally, I don't much care if the stuff has purdy lights, but I wish they came with a switch to turn the darn things off. Manufacturers seem to fail to realize that some people put PCs in their bedrooms (or dorm rooms). And those people don't necessarily need a night light.

Well I've already passed the old fart demographic & well on the way into pre-historic (34+) :p

Illuminated case fans don't bother me either way, my main consideration was cooling performance and the IceberQ4 was such an item (though I just wasn't sure it'd fit originally), I don't have a window on my case, nor a plexiglass (clear) enclosure... but my 9600XT has a similarly illuminated fan too, as for deactivating the LED's you could if you wanted to strip down the fan assembly... though I'd rather not ;)

What would be sinful Tannin? getting Merc' to admit anything? :p :poke:
