Trying to create a mirror from two SATA drives on an Asus A8N-SLI using the 4-port nVidia RAID function. After configuring the RAID, the PC hangs at "Detecting array" every time it starts, even if you press [Del] to enter the BIOS setup. The only way around it is to use the Clear CMOS jumper. :(

Anyone had success or failure with nForce 4 (or 3) RAID? Or just any idea at all?

I created a RAID-1 on my ASUS K8N-E Deluxe without issue. "Detecting array" took about 5 seconds. Perhaps it took longer the first time to create the array? I don't remember.

Okay, I solved it by:

1. Disconnecting the second drive. This allows it to bring up the RAID setup with an error.
2. Using the RAID setup to delete the array, then restarting.
3. Entering the BIOS setup and disabling RAID on the first drive.
4. Reconnecting the second drive. The RAID setup comes up with an error.
5. Using the RAID setup to delete the array, then restarting.
6. Entering the BIOS setup and reenabling RAID on the first drive.
7. Using the RAID setup to configure the array.

Maybe I could have skipped a couple of steps, but I don't know which. I don't whether nVidia or Asus is to blame for this.

It's up and running just fine now. The nForce driver package installs a RAID monitor under Windows which seems to work okay.

Now for the real test - this box is actually supposed to be running Linux. :)
