ROTFLMAO!

Thanks, Clocker. That was one of the best "silly forwards" type things I've seen in a while.

FYI: Did you know our friend Tannin had a hand in this?

Nokia Australia's head of marketing, Antony Wilson, said the video clip was not an official advertisement but might be an unauthorised version produced by one of Nokia's 52 advertising agencies worldwide.

Mr Wilson acknowledged the clip could have been made by an amateur digital film-maker or a professional at an advertising agency as an in-house joke.

"Agencies make a variety of options, many of which will never get shown to the client because they don't fit the client's brief or advertising guidelines," he said.

"It is possible this was one of those."

Since I'm sure the usual "no animals were harmed during the making of this commercial" applies here this doesn't bother me. In fact, it's downright hilarious. As much as I love most cats, I was very tempted to do something like this when we were catsitting for my sister's cat a few months ago. Maybe a few spins in the washer on damp dry would have straightened out her nasty SOB of a cat. BTW, I'm loathe to admit this, but in my childhood I put our cat Kimba through about three spins in our washing machine. When the lid opened, he literally flew out at warp speed. Outside of being scared to death, he was otherwise OK. I felt so bad about it afterwards I never did anything like that again. My mom was ready to put me through three spins when she found out about it, but at that point I was too big to force into the machine.

JTR, you did not put water and detergent when you put your cat in your washing machine, did you? That would be very cruel!

Cheers,
Edward

Oh man, that made me laugh. Thanks for putting that up, C.

I find it totally believable that Tony had his hands in the making of that clip. I'll bet he contributed to this weirdness too.

I'm sadistic but not that sadistic. Besides, cats are well known for their aversion to water. It would be almost impossible for a child of my age at the time to force a 10 pound male cat into a tub full of water. It's hard enough giving the ones we have now the occasional bath, although they're more manageable in the kitchen sink instead of the bath tub. I love the instructions on the bottle of cat shampoo-1)Lather 2)Let stand about 10 minutes 3)Repeat. Yeah, right. It's obvious whoever wrote that was never anywhere near a cat.

You can actually train a cat to like to be in water... you just have to get them used to it when they're young. A friend of mine has a cat who enjoys baths.

I once knew of someone who had a *kitten* that liked to go out and ride on the surfboard at the beach. Yes, the ocean. Yes, get soaking wet.

Well, I hate to breakup the laughter, but, I reviewed the "flying cat video" and the cat is a real cat and the same cat all the way through the sequence. I used sophisticated video software to watch the video frame-by-frame at high resolution with quality interpolation on each frame -- including high quality zoom-in on a video frame where needed.

Anyway, after the cat is released, the cat is thrown through the air against the wall. Fortunately, its fast reflexes allow it to barely turn around just in time to land against the wall on its feet and stomach (simultaneously). It then falls and runs along the edge of the wall -- obviously disoriented -- behind those blankets near the wall. It then walks in a disoriented fashion up to the corner and finally runs across the floor to the right.

Interesting, is it just me or did anyone else notice that the fan remains perfectly balanced throughout the video. Even with the full weight of the cat on it, it never wobbles. This was enough to make me believe the cat was replaced with a graphic version.

You're right. I remember when I put up two ceiling fans at my sister's place and then had to adjust the balancing weights. These were small masses, less than an ounce each, and not too far from the center. Even so, until they were correctly positioned they still exerted enough torque to make the blades wobble considerably. Certainly a cat spinning 3 feet off-center would cause very noticeable wobble. It's all computer generated, no doubt about it. Or at least I hope so for the poor cat's sake.
