Open Office vs. Star Office

I seem to remember that Sun split their office suite into the paid version called Star Office, and an open source one called Open Office. I've used Open Office and am generally happy with it, but have never used Star Office. Through my school I can get Star Office for free....just wondering if it's worth the download.

is that how it went? I always thought they were competing products not related... I've always preferred openoffice above star office and abiword

I believe the big difference is in updated document conversion filters. OpenOffice works well enough for 99% of people who need to do word processing - Word and Wordperfect are ridiculously overpowered - but last time I played with OpenOffice I remember being able to make it crash without too much effort.
