please help with paging...urgent

when i insert the page numbers in the footer, the page number says page 0 of 134 throughout the document. the TOC references each page as page 0...it doesnt want to update.
i divided the doc into sections:
section 1 is the title page - 1 page only
section 2 is the TOC - 3 pages
section 3 is the body - 134 pages
...the weird thing is that when i divided the doc into sections, the paging at the bottom of word says that im on page 3 when im on the first page of the TOC, when actually it's just page 2. then when im supposed to be in the first page of the body of the document, the bottom of word says im in page 7, when its actually just page 5
unfortunately, i cannot send a copy of the document since it's company property...please help...

It take it you've got a problem with some or other version of Word, then?

not always. sometimes its working fine...but often in large documents. In these large documents, Word even does frequent repagination when the document is launched. give me ur email. i can send an example

What kind of breaks are you putting into the document? Continuous breaks will cause page numbering to go through.
