It's bundled with Quicktime Alternative.

And yes, it is a handy media player. Plays almost anything you can throw at it.

Yes, all the time!

MPC is a wonderful directshow media player. One of the most useful features is the fact that It has a very good dvd (MPEG2) decoder built into it (although I disable it an use the Dscaler5 decoder).

It also has capturing functionality, but it has never worked for me, although I know it works for others just fine.

What I've been installing lately is the Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack..

It's a one-shot deal for pretty much every oddball video format.
Codec Packs! Yuk!

In the wonderful world of Windows, I use ffdshow (celtic_druid builds) to handle the decoding of pretty much everything, with the exception of Mpeg1/2 handled by Dscaler5. The only other requirement's I need is Haali's Mastroka splitter - Gabtest actually includes a Mastroka splitter in MPC, but I choose to use Haali's as it contains an mp4 splitter too. I also installed illiminable Ogg decoders as ffdshow sometimes has problems with some ogg material (theora).
