Samsung vibration

I'm aware that some Samsung hard drives seem to vibrate excessively, but I've got a 160GB SATA here that's worrying me. I'm actually concerned about the effect on other drives in the same cage! It's mounted on compressed rubber grommets, which may be making it better or worse.

I thought these drives used fluid bearings? It certainly runs hot enough (43C reported with ambient 26C, confirmed by finger :)).

Suffice to say that if it wasn't a Samsung, I'd be expecting an early failure.

I am omnipresent
My 160GB SATA Samsung drives don't vibrate excessively.
NONE of them do that. I think I have 20 of 'em.

I'd try mounting it differently for sure. That's just not normal.

They are supposedly all fluid bearing drives, but that's not your problem. Sounds like one of your platters is out of balance. I have a couple drives that make a bit of vibration, one is a new seagate 400gig and the other is something really old. Not a lot of vibration but you can feel it idling.

If it is really shaking the cage it will kill itself and others eventually, probably want to RMA it.
