I have 8 Adaptec 3000 series SCSI raid controllers and 20+ Seagate Cheetah 18GB hard drives. I found by accident that I can install Windows 7 32bit operating system on this controller using XP drivers.
What I would like to do is install Windows 7 x64 on this controller but I cannot find any drivers. They are not available for download on the Adaptec web site. Adaptec says they are embeded in the XP x64 install disk, but extracting them didn't work with Win 7...unless I did something wrong.
Does anybody know if this card was used by another company (under a different name??? ) where I might find x64 drivers?

Thanks

Have you actually tried the installer for win7 using that controller and disk? Maybe get lucky and find they carried the driver over, doubt it though.

Or maybe start with xp x64 and do an upgrade which is really a wipe and replace?

What does upgrade advisor say about that controller? May have to be run under the xp x64 install.

Thanks for your quick reply!

I have tried to install Win 7 a few times already. I tried to do the upgrade but on the reboot from XP, Win 7 can't find the RAID controller and wants drivers.
I have thought about installing XP x64, then upgrading to Vista x64 and then upgrade to Win 7 x64. I can imagine that would be a mess.

What products have Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 drivers/software available and if there are no drivers/software available for the product, will there be drivers/software available in the future?

Your lucky 7 runs them at all.

I ebayed all of my Adaptec stuff for just such reasons, and, sub-industry standard chips on some of them, with limited throughput.
