Sectors in a track

Does the amount of sectors per track get larger as you move from the centre track to the outer-most track on a HDD? People say that the sustained read gets faster when the file is placed on the outer-most tracks. I only see that as possible if there is more data in outter tracks.

Yes, hard drives have multiple zones containing more sectors per track at the beginning (outer) cylinders.
