I bought my brother-in-law a slot-1 adapter for a 533Mhz Celeron Socket 370 .

I don't have the adapter right now but I plan on giving my old P3 1Ghz to him. Is it possible he will need a new Slot 1 adapter or are they all the same? THe Motherboard is a Gigabyte 6VX-4X. It's been so long since I looked at that stuff I forgot...

If it's a recent one, it should be FCPGA compatible. I think it was just the earliest converters that weren't.

The first Slot 1->Socket 370 adaptors will not work on FC-PGA processors (I believe they changed the pin signalling etc). Same problem when trying to use an FC-PGA 2 CPU in an FC-PGA (1) adaptor.

Fortunately when I got my 466 Celeron (S370) I specified an FCPGA compatible adaptor, so when I upgraded to Celermine 566@850, it worked no worries.

Certainly nothing ever changes in the Intel upgrade scenarios, now it looks like to use a >3GHz P4 people will need new mobos.
