I'm sorry, but as long as flash has a limited number of write cycles, I think people are buying into planned obselence. A bad plan when dealing with peoples data: That includes Flash SSD's and Flash assist HD's but excludes thumb drives because I see those as temporary storage.
I've heard of the idea of using a conventional HD along with a solid state drive (the type that looses memory when powered off) for data backup and I suppose it could be used with this type of flash memory. But what happens when the flash memory develops a few bad sectors (or whatever they're called in flash land) while your OS is running? A major crash? Do you then run a utility stored on that conventional HD to remap the data and re-image the flash drive? Just buy a new flash drive?
