TOR & Privoxy

Anyone ever heard of TOR or Privoxy?

I'm running them now and don't quite know what to think. Web sites load slower but most of the adds don't show up.
Even some of the Emoticons are missing here on SF.

You probably just think it loads slower because filter actions are enabled. Privoxy has to load the whole page before it applies such filters. Since most browsers start rendering a page as soon as information is recieved, it normally begins appearing immediately. With Privoxy running the page will only appear once all the information needed to construct it has been downloaded.

This means that the total time is unlikely to have changed, but you percieve it to be longer because your browser can't begin rendering immediately.

Incidentally, the total render/download time should actually be lowered since Privoxy will cut out a whole lot of bandwidth usage normally dedicated advertisements.


P.S. have you tried the "adventurous" setting. There a couple fun little easter eggs that become activated when you enable it...
