Uninstalling NAV2003 mess up internet connection?

Hello everyone,

Has any of you encountered this problem I have when uninstalling Nortons AntiVirus 2003? When I uninstalled NAV2003, I could no longer connect to the internet. I looked at my Network settings and found that I no longer have an IP address although I still have my ISP's DNS and DHCP settings present. I rang my ISP and asked if their internet connection is down but the tech person say internet is okay at their end. I spent at least 2 frustrating hours trying to figure out what is happening and in the end, I hose my system and re-installed Windows. :evil:

Uninstalling NAV can screw up all sorts of stuff. Never HEARD of it screwing up an internet connection but I think the standard things to try are in order:

Run a repair on the network connection.
Delete the connection
Delete the hardware in device manager
Use netsh to reset TCP/IP on XP.

Thanks Merc, especially about netsh which I did not know. Although I did delete the connection and hardware.

I'm downloading netsh now in case I had the same problem in the future. A curse on Symantec! :evil:

no need to download...

in winXP, simply goto the command line and type:

netsh int ip reset c:\reset.log

then check c:\reset.log for details

Nortons is like that. They have the best downloads and removal tools, but installing NAV or any of its ugly, bloated relatives is always adding substantially to the risk that your system will self-destruct. Uninstalling (as you've noticed) can be risky too.

NAV2003 and DI-604 router problem

Hi Everybody!

I have got the same problem with NAV2003 Prof. I have an ADSL connection and Internet sharing via D-Link DI-604 cable router. After uninstall NAV
I couldn't connection to Internet. All setting of Ethernet card are lost. I couldn't login the setup of DI-604 router via 192.168.0.1 IP Address. :evil:
My OS is Windows XP Prof HUN SP1
My Ethernet card's IP Address is: 0.0.0.0 and the Subnet mask is: 0.0.0.0
My ISP DNS Addresses was good!

Run a repair on the network connection.

I completted these. The situation is the same, no Internet no local netware.
After the system restore an earlyer time, on an intersting mode my system will good. Local netware and Internet are working good.
In the NAV2003 all setup are disabled, nothing not working, just it's there and it doesn't working. :lol:
Nerve-racking that it is there and I don't want use this but I don't know uninstall. I don't want simply delete.
I bought the NOD32 antivir software it's hundred-time better then NAV.
I would like use the NOD32 only.
Can you help me somebody. :roll:

Can you "ping localhost" or assign yourself a static non-zeroes IP (say, 192.168.0.10/255.255.255.0)?

Any chance you can use XP's ability to "roll back" the change to before you installed the product using the "System Restore"? I've used this to completely remove Norton system works after it infected my machine.

Hi!

I can't ping nothing! As I wrote IP addreass is :0.0.0.0 and the Subnet mask is:0.0.0.0 and I can't setup an other address. DHCP is Enable, I can see the ISP's DNS addresses 213.163.59.10 and 213.163.0.1.

Other idea?

Well, then step by step.
1. Make a System Rescue point.
2. Uninstall NAV2003
3. After PC reboot running the Rnav2003.exe (download from Symantec)
4. Install NOD32
5. Scan local discs with NOD32
6. Not virus
7. Connect to Internet, but I can't.

From the errors I wrote above.

Sounds like you should reinstall your NIC and pray... if all else fails there is the system file checker (start->run type: sfc /scannow) and a reboot.

Run REGEDIT or REGEDT32.

Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP key.

Edit the DependOnService value (double-click).

Click on the right hand side of the dialog box where it shows the alphanumeric equivalent of the binary data.

Delete any reference to "SYMTDI" or "NISDRV" and associated null (00) characters, leaving "Tcpip Afd Netbt" (or similar), then click OK.

Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT key.

Edit the DependOnService value as above and again delete any reference to "SYMTDI" or "NISDRV", leaving "Tcpip", then click OK.

Close the registry editor and restart Windows.

On me was in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesDHCP key and NetBT key "SYMTDI" associated null (00)

After reboot, conect Intermet and IT WAS GOOD CONECTION!
