Evening everybody.

I need to share my dial-up Internet connection wirelessly, and was wondering if those Linksys/D-link etc products that route a broadband Ethernet connection wirelessly can also be used if I hooked up the broadband input port into an ICS shared dial-up connection?

The reason I ask is these products seem to be cheaper than a normal wireless AP of limited functionality (I will be using 802.11a).

TIA.

Thanks Merc. Any special config needed, or is it all plug and pray? I guess when it sees a private IP addy on the input, it just routes out other private addresses?

I am omnipresent
They're actually fairly stupid. Whatever comes in over the WAN port is going to come out the other side as a 192.168.something network.

There are at least two other solutions.

One is to place a wireless NIC into the ICS box. This box can act as an access point for at least three other wireless nodes. Linksys(?) has some with the ability to use an antennae with a long cable.

Another alternative is to buy a wireless router with a serial port.

PS. I think with your proposed solution you will need to configure the access point into bridged mode.
