Does anyone know of a stand alone 'chkdsk' type of utility? Something that would run from floppy and work on NTFS, including the XP and .NET ntfs.

Thanks

won't chkdsk run from a floppy? and can't you read NTFS from wither the reapair console or using special drivers from a boot floppy?

I don't understand what you want that isn't already available by default.

NTFs, as a journaling file system, shouldn't NEED to be chkdsk'd . Unless there's some kind of truly massive corruption, the data structures builtin to NTFS should be able to repair themselves... and if you've got corruption like that, you're probably better off worrying about how long a restore is going to take.

NTFSCHK by Sysinternals might be what you are after. It is a part of NTFSDOS Professional and runs from a floppy.

Check out this page for more info: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfsdospro.shtml (Scroll down to "Using NTFSCHK" )
