^^^ Some very nice vacation pics DD. Industrial stuff is interesting as well. Yeah. Life happens. Things change. Hobbies change. Busy, busy, busy. So many things I used to do, all the time, I seldom or never do anymore. Such as: Day hiking, car-camping, backpacking (incl. snow-hiking)...

Quail. In the shade, early in the A.M. Taken at ISO 5000. Yeah, that ISO is just too high for my D610.

MILCs are awful. MILFs are the opposite of awful. ;) Anyways, I guess I could experiment shooting RAW+JPG vs RAW and time buffer clearing but either way the buffer is still only 10 frames so time saved waiting for buffer to clear might not be worth it. I'm trying to keep my "bursts" to only...

The buffer in my D610 is tiny. Definitely not a sports/action/wildlife camera. Only 10 RAW+JPG shots and buffer is full. Then a long wait for the buffer to clear. I have two, 95 MB/s write speed, Sandisk Extreme Pro SD cards. I'm writing in BACKUP mode, basically RAID-1, to both SD card...

The price premium moving from a Nikkor 500/5.6 to a 500/4 PF is huge. Like 2.9x the price for one stop of light. Plus sharper in corners, touch faster focus, better build quality, etc. If the 500/5.6 PF is $3600, I 'm guessing the 600/5.6 PF will be $4200-4600. Rumor is the 500/5.6 PF is...

I thought bumblebees were simply all black, but they seem to have an iridescent sheen on their wings and bodies. This shot is two stops underexposed, taken at ISO 180. Must have bumped the exp-comp as I was zooming as EXIF says photo taken at 480mm not 500mm. Flower seems fine but sky is more...

EXIF data says 2.99 meters to subject. I bumped up the saturation to enhance the colors (sent you a link to RAW file) so that might have increased the noise. I'm still hand holding camera. Images still not as sharp as I'd like even with a 1/2000 sec shutter speed. Looking to pick up a...

For me, "post processing" is so frustrating, I basically haven't taken any photos in nearly 2 years. I DO NOT WANT to deal with any catalog or database PP software. No Adobe pay monthly crap. I'm not printing. I'm not selling. I'm not sharing (save the occasional post to forums). I'm not...

I've decided to pick up a SanDisk Clip Sport Plus 16GB MP3 Player for now and hold off on the pricier DAP. $54 and change, and I can walk into BestBuy and pick it up. Yeah that's it. I've been eyeballing the Sony NW-A45 for $220 instead of just buying a cheaper Sandisk Clip Sport Plus for $50. I'd hate to buy the A45 then have the A55 come out 2 weeks later. Do you remember the lag time between the Japanese availability of the A30 series and North American...

    Best 8TB Drive

Correct of course. HGST was taken over in 2012 (or whenever) but they were still mostly independent of WD and not using WD production lines? But what I should have said was that now (semi-recently) HGST is completely under WD control and no longer make their own drives. It's harder to find...

I wonder...when the Z 6 and Z 7 (as well as D5, D850, D500) receive their firmware update to work with CFex cards they will utilize the full speed of there babies. 1700/1480 MB/s read/write speeds. The D5 buffer might get close to being bottomless with those write speeds.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Canon and Nikon have to ship their flagship cameras (DSLR 1DX3 & D6) before they ship their high end MILC. Don't want to eat into those sales. To nit-pick it's a 58/0.95 not 50. Nikon does have the Z mount 24-70/4 but it's a bit pricey. They do need a cheaper kit lens such as a DECENT...

Nikon announces their Z mount 24-70 f/2.8 S lens. $2300. Shorter and lighter then the F mount 2.8E lens. A bit sharper in the center, (according to theoretical MTF charts). It will be interesting to see if the build quality is better than the Z mount 24-70/4 S lens.
